Housing Assistance Grants

The Federal Government is the largest funding source for housing assistance grants. Housing assistance grants are available through many government agencies including, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Veterans Administration.

Grant funds are awarded only after completion of a grant application. Eligibility for grant fund awards is not contingent upon your credit score or employment. Grant fund do not have to be repaid.

U.S. Department of Justice

 

The United States Department of Justice has grant funds available through the Office on Violence Against Women. This is a Transitional Housing Assistance Program that provides housing assistance to women who have been victims of violence such as sexual assault, violent acts involving dating, and stalking crimes

Eligible housing assistance grants fund recipients include Indian tribes, local governments and community service based organizations including faith-based organizations. These grants are available on an annual basis.

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

Housing assistance grants are available to senior citizens and disabled individuals, who fall into the category of very low-income. Very low-low income is defined as not exceeding 50% of the medium area income.

Housing assistance grants are available for every state and territory of the United States. Eligible grant recipients are nonprofit real estate developers who will provide handicap accessible housing, rental assistance for very low-income senior citizens and people with disabilities.
 

HIV/AIDS (HUD)

 

Several housing assistance grants have been designated for individuals who are U.S. Citizens with HIV/AIDS and are available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These grant funds have been allocated to provide rental assistance housing funds to very-low income families and individuals.

Housing assistance funds for HIV/AIDS patients can be applied for in all states and U.S. territories through nonprofit organizations including faith-based organizations.  Grant funds to provide housing assistance for individuals HIV/AIDS is also available to real estate developers.

Capital Advance Program

 

HUD has a Capital Advance Program designed to expand the availability of housing for very low-income legal residents of the U.S. and it’s territories. Legal residents must be at least 62-years of age and older that can live independently.

The Capital Advance Program funds the development, construction, rehabilitation and acquisition of multifamily units. HUD will offer subsidizes for rent to residents who are 62-years or older. Residents will be expected to pay 30 percent of their annual income.
Housing Assistance for Veterans

There are many different types of housing grants available every year to help U.S. Veterans. The U.S. Federal Government has earmarked $6 billion dollars in grant funds that provide down payment assistance, funds for property rehabilitation and emergency repairs.
