Preview a new book in progress about St. Thomas, USVI from the author of "Corruption In America's Paradise" by , Nancy Holloway-Prince The Virgin Islands is a beautiful place but like the mainland wages are stagnant, illegal immigration is rampant and for some reason with all of our sunshine, no solar energy! This new book "Slum Lords Of The Virgin Islands" again speaks truth to power. This important new book will be published by Ninth Life Publishing will focus not only on the problems we have in the Virgin Islands, but solutions.
“Information Corporations Don’t Want You To Know”
It’s raining in paradise,
again, no tennis. Shopping is good
when it rains in paradise. We need more
paint to complete our remodel at the retreat. So it’s off to Home Depot.
The same strategy that
overwhelmed agencies like The FBI,
during the Clinton Administration, is the weapon of choice in the siege
against
The Virgin Islands Government. The
local media won’t tell you what’s really going on, because the
advertisers own
them and the media speaks for and to 15% of the population.
The
media is
censored in the Virgin Islands, as the strategy of the corporation is
buy media
outlets and control the information that affects profits. More than 90%
of all
goods sold come from China or India, St. Thomas is full of tourist
traps,
little culture. There is a “Native Store” across from “Vendors Plaza”.
Retail
rents are
outrageous on St. Thomas and St. John. There should be an office of the
government to promote home-based business ownership and Internet based
business
that exports the culture. The people feel disenfranchised, and they are
out
right discriminated against in their own homeland.
A friend told me of a
prominent attorney, firing a clerical
staff member for speaking with her West Indian Accent. He said, “If
she’s going
to work here she’s going to speak “Yankee”. That would be like
insisting that a
New Yorker drop his accent while working for a West Indian company.
St. John has 2 or 3
percent more whites than Native St.
Johnians. Demonstrators from St. Thomas
and St. Croix were already organized, for St. John demonstrations,
because
things are so bad racially speaking in the Virgin Islands.
It’s not race, it’s
economics and it’s not exclusive to the
Virgin Islands. Look at New Orleans and an onslaught of illegal
immigrants,
happy to accept lower than the prevailing wage. The Bush
Administration,
content to look the other way as they let who knows in our country and
passes
legislation to keep wages down and corporate profits up.
Who is running Homeland
Security? Illegal immigration is a
disgrace, there are so many holes in our all of America’s borders,
there could
be a map or Seven Eleven stores along the way. Why stop there,
corporate
America, build a chain of McDonalds, Burger Kings or Wal-Mart’s. I’m surprised there are no employment
agencies or job fairs sponsored by Marriott or Hyatt in proximity to
gaps in
our borders.
Illegal immigration and
greedy corporations adversely affect
all local economies, the Virgin Islands are at the extreme. Now that corporations own so many media
outlets, what use to be news is little more than Public Relations, they
own
resorts also.
There is a discernable
pattern, plan and strategy designed
to provide corporations with cheap labor in every geographic location. Cheap labor is easy to find in third world
countries, the U.S. is getting easier every day. The division between
the haves
and the have not is growing deeper.
A quality lifestyle can be experienced with knowledge and information. As the corporations have us convinced that we need two cars and women can have it all, is there a better way? Most people don’t read about more than issues that promote consumerism, because the advertisers that pay the bills promote a lifestyle predicated on spending more money to enjoy life.
We’ve been lied to.
The number one reason, we work, is for respect. When we
cannot achieve
the level of respect we all need, we are unhappy at work.
We are told that we work for money because corporations
cannot sell you the beauty of the sun, raising and setting. We’re still not teaching our children that
they should expect to love their work.
Enjoyment from life is
contingent upon how often you can
experience the things you truly love to do.
Are you setting and
achieving goals? Are you planning
ahead? Or are you just going to work
for a paycheck, receiving a couple of weeks off a year for a vacation
and
health insurance? We don’t even have the job security our parents were
supposed
to have, that’s when outsourcing began.
We must do more to
promote self-employment, home-based
businesses and neighborhood manufacturing.
They use to say “The Best
Things In Life Are Free”, and they
still are. Learn to smell the flowers, enjoy the meal, and get to know
yourself. It is a proven fact that the
rich are not happier than the rest of us; corporations don’t want you
to know
this especially.
